The 8th International Symposium on Permafrost Engineering is organized by the First Highway Survey and Design Institute of China (Xi'an, China), the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (Lanzhou, China), and the Melnikov Permafrost Institute (Yakutsk, Russia).

The permafrost is undergoing dramatic changes due to warming climate and steadily increasing anthropogenic activities. On the other hand, the evolution of permafrost environments substantially impacts natural ecosystems, engineering infrastructures, and land use. This Symposium will provide a forum for researchers to exchange practical experiences in construction and maintenance of engineering structures, as well as toprovide a showcase for recent developments and advancements in geocryology, permafrost hydrology, ecology, and so on, and debate future directions for permafrost engineering.
