The expert evaluated committee, which was invited by Lanzhou BranchofChinese Academy of Sciences and was organized by Gansu Provincial Science and Technology Department, assessed the project of“Research on biological characteristics of Linze jujube and high water use efficiency in jujube/crop complex system”which was presided by Professor Pei-Xi Su and accomplished by Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Linze County Science and Technology Development Center. The experts thought this project took an organic combination between basic research and applied research, and had some innovation in photosynthesis, water consumption of Linze jujube and water requirement regularity of its complex system. The achievement of this research reaches to advanced international standards.

According to the introduction of Professor Pei-Xi Su, Linze jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill. var inermis Rehd. cv. Linze jujube) is a unique native with high-quality fruiter, which adapted to high temperature and irradiation environment. It is one of the important fruiter-resources for the establishment of water-saving oasis in Hexi Corridor in Gansu. Water is a maximum factor which limited the development of this region, so establishment of high water-saving agroforestry ecosystem is an important choice for the sustainable development of the oasis on the premise of control total water use and quota irrigation in inland river basin. The jujube/crop complex ecosystem has a dual function on increasing income and reducing disaster. The main object of this study was to protect and promote agriculture by jujube, and establishment of jujube/crop complex ecosystem with high water use efficiency could provide a scientific basis for the standardized management of water resources and industrial development.

After discussing, the experts considered that this study exposited the photosynthesis of Linze jujube under high temperature and irradiation conditions by the photosynthesis measurement system and plant efficiency measurement system; determined the critical temperature of safe hibernation of Linze jujube and provided a defensive strategy for Linze jujube against freezing damage based on a full investigation, advanced the important irrigation stage of Linze jujube and water demand in different cultivation patterns, summarized the negative-effect disciplinarian of Linze jujube based on the field investigation, physiological parameters measurement and yield determination, and significantly improved the jujube/crop complex system efficiency through improving cultivation management and using high-yield crop cultivation techniques.
