Recently, Wulate Desert Steppe Research Station, which will focus on the research of the desert steppe ecology system in the northern foot of the Yinshan Mountains in Inner Mongolia, was established. The establishment of this station filled up the blank space of the observation research of the desert steppe ecology system in our country. 

According to the introduction of the head of station, Zhao Xueyong, the Wulate Plateau are chosen as the research zone, which is located in the Midwest of Inner Mongolia. This station will be beneficial to observe and study the pattern, processes, change rules of the desert steppe ecology system in Hetao oases, Yinshan Mountain and Mongolia Plateau. it not only will benefit to study the pattern and change processes of the desert steppe ecology system, but also to screen the functional zone of the typical desert steppe ecology system and the change rules of pattern, and the establishment of the station will reveal the change relations and the interaction mechanism of the ecology system evolution, regional climate and land utilization, provide the decision support, theoretical basis and technical support for the protection of the regional ecological environment, the resource sustainable utilization and the recovery of the degraded land.  

Zhao introduced, the research directions of the station are to observe and study the pattern, processes and change rules of the desert steppe. Its main works are to observe the change processes of the regional desert steppe ecology system, study the pattern and changes of the ecology system, explain the change rules of regional climate and land utilization, reveal the relations of the ecology system evolution and the change of climate and land utilization, integrate the research task of the protection and recovery of the ecology system.
