The Big Data Center of Cold and Arid Regions Sciences was established in Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (CAREERI) on June 8, 2014.

Ma Wei, who is the director of CAREERI, introduced the Big Data Center and its research positioning. He introduced the research on the cold and arid regions sciences had entered the stage of the typical data-intensive research, and the characteristic of cold and arid regions sciences included massive amounts of data, multisource, multi-scales and spatial and temporal characteristics.

“Based on existing data of cold and arid regions, we will take advantage of the Big Data Center of Cold and Arid Regions Sciences to develop the scientific research innovation”. Ma emphasized.

Prof CHENG Guodong said the Big Data represented the latest method of thoughts and forecast and not just the sum of available data. Prof. QIN Dahe indicated the Big Data would play an important role in future scientific and technical revolution, and science data not only promoted natural sciences, but also promoted the economic and social development.
