The Tenth International Symposium on Permafrost Engineering was held in Harbin on Aug. 22 to 24. The theme of this symposium is permafrost engineering and its adaptive strategy under the background of global climate change.
250 experts from Russia, USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Mongolia and China attended the symposium and discussed the issues on the climate and environment change, human activities, frozen soil engineering, permafrost hydrology effect and antifreeze technology in water conservancy project, engineering construction in permafrost areas, theoretical model and physical and mechanical properties of permafrost, and the monitoring to permafrost, ice and snow.
It is reported that International Symposium on Permafrost Engineering originated from Russia-Sino Symposium. After years of development, the international Symposium on Permafrost Engineering has become a regional international academic event. Especially after the Qinghai-Tibet Railway’s operation, the major countries permafrost research in the world and the International Permafrost Association (IPA) also paid high attention to China’s achievements in the field of permafrost research.
It is reported that the next International Symposium on Permafrost Engineering will be held in Magadan in Russia in 2017.
