Dr. W.R.L. Cairns and Dr. Roberta Zangra, come from Venice University, visited State Key Laboratory of Cryospheric Sciences (SKLCS) at the invitation of Prof. Kang Shichang on Mar. 28. Two scholars gave two academic reports with the title “Analysis of mercury in Alpine air, and Antarctic air and snow and ice” and “Analytical methods for the determination of biomass burning tracers in ice cores and atmospheric aerosols”.
Dr. W.R.L. Cairns developed a method for analyzing trace elements in all kinds of environmental vectors. In his report, detailed analyzing methods for mercury in the ice core and aerosol were given and their transporting mechanisms in the atmosphere were also included. Dr. Roberta Zangra’s research focused on the organic pollutions, organic tracers, organic markers and other organic components in the ice cores and aerosols and her lecture showed us the analyzing methods for levoglucosan and great efforts was paid on the method, procedure and some cautions for analyzing levoglucosan and its isomerides.
