Fifty years’ wind and rain, fifty years’ striving experience and glory!

 
The 23rd, May, 2009 will greet Cold and Arid Regions Envionmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences’ 50th Birthday. It is the time for us gratefully thank leaders and friends from eversea and domestic from the whole society that you had insisted and supported our reformations, innovations and developments for many years
The formers of Cold and Arid Regions Envionmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences are Lanzhou Plateau Atmospheric Physical Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences  that be built in 1957, Lanzhou Glaciology and Geocryology Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences that be built in 1958, Lanzhou Desert Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences that be built in 1958 respectively. In 1999, the above three institutes combinated into Cold and Arid Regions Envionmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
After strived by several generations, the sciences in cold and arid regions have developed from the beginning of 50 years ago and to today’s Cold and Arid Regions Envionmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the scientific enterprise have experienced and bolssomed for 50 years. During the last 50 years, we experienced the crazy ardour at the beginning, the difficulty at the growing, the happyness in adult period. These striving storys have been highly written in world scientific history of cold and arid regions experienceswhere the senior, the middle and the young scientists are the witness and creator of the history with heart and hands and scientific enterprises become more stronger due to our several generations’ striving hand by hand and the source and history of scientific highway appear more longer more broader due to our several generations’ passing hand by hand. The last fifty years, is the strongest sound in our science and technique times of scientists and scientific staffs working on cold and arid regional scientific enterprises.
Just at Cold and Arid Regions Envionmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences’ 50th Birthday, we luckly meet the academician SHI Yafeng’s 90th Birthday, who is called as “Father of China Glaciers”. The SHI Yafeng is the originator of china glaciology research system and pathbreaker of china modern glaciology and leaded field excursions and directly investigated glaciers in Qilianshan Mountain, Tienshan Mountains, Himalaya Mountains and Kala Korum Mountains and edited professional works. He laid the foundation of the sciences of China glaciology. During our Institute Birthday Celebration, China geography society and we will together celebrate academician SHI Yafeng ’s 90th birthday for his excellent devotion for cold and arid regional sciences.
In order to further agglomerate the strengh and push innovation and developmentwe will have a series of celebration activities in may, 2009, mainly including institute 50th birthday celebration convention, academicaion SHI Yafeng’s 90th birthday celebration, special academic lectures, and so on. Therefore,we sincerely invite you our worshipful leads and friends attending our institute 50th birthday celebrations
