NIEER and its former institutes have led or participated about 3000 research projects/programs, including the National 973 and 863 Programs, National Key Technologies R&D Programs, Key National Science Foundation Projects, and other national or local research grants daring the past 50 years. Due to its excellence in conducting research and solving practical and key scientific and engineering problems, NIEER was awarded 3 Outstanding Prizes for Science and Technology Progress,4 First-Class prizes for Science and Technology Progress, 3 First-Class National Natural Science Awards, 17 Second-Class National Science and Technology Progress and Natural Science Awards, 3 Provincial/Ministerial Level Special-Class Awards, 36 Provincial/Ministry-Level, First-class awards, and much more than 70 provincial/Ministry-level, second-class awards.
