The foci are inland rivers and watersheds in China and Central Asia. It aims at providing theoretical basis and practical solutions for water and land resources and environments problems in western China. The major research disciplines include hydrology,eco-hydrology, eco-economics, water and soil conservancy, and land use in arid and semiarid regions. The goals of the research division are to optimize the distribution of water and land resources and environments among major natural and human communities in arid and semiarid western China.
