Leaders of top economies brought together in Seoul for the G20 economic summit Friday discussed trade, climate change and green growth during the working lunch that followed the third session focused on development issues.

During the first part of the lunch, the leaders discussed efforts among G20 countries to stem the spread of protectionism to keep the nascent global economic recovery in place. They also discussed concluding the Doha Development Round, multilateral trade negotiations stalled since 2008.

Noting that concerted efforts among the G20 leaders are effectively keeping trade protectionism at bay, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, who chairs the G20 summit, stressed the importance of free trade and open market.

Tackling climate change and promoting low-carbon, green growth dominated the table during the second part of the working lunch. The leaders also discussed ways to draw concrete outcomes from the upcoming U.N. climate change conference, to be held in Cacun, Mexico.
