The researchers analyzed the characteristics of climate, geology and geomorphology, vegetation, and sand dunes distribution in the Cuonahu Lake area beside the Qinghai-Tibeta Railway, further have studied the types and causes of railway blown-sand hazards, and have assessed the effect of sand-controlling measures implemented along the Qinghai-Tibeta Railway in Cuonahu Lake area. From the point of view of integrated advisement, a sand-controlling system that combines engineering measures (i.e., nylon net sand-barrier, concrete sand-barrier, mobile boards sand-barrier, sand interception ditch, gravel/rock cover, film sandbag, and straw checkerboard) and vegetation measure is highly valued.
