Glacier velocities have been researched for nearly 50 years in China. But there is no scientific summarization about glacier velocities. In this paper, the current study status, research achievements, and surveying technology about glacier velocities are summed up. In general, China's valley glacier velocities are decreasing, with a local difference, which is related to the difference in glacier size. Land\|based survey is the basic monitoring method, and advanced aerial methods are adopted by degrees. It is necessary to strengthen ice movement mechanism study, to use ground and aerial observation methods synthetically to monitor glacier movement, and to ensure the continuity and integrality of the surveyed data.
