Based on AVHRR/NDVI of 8 km spatial resolution from 1997 to 2006, a fractional vegetation cover data were obtained, which has the same spatial resolution with Regional Climate Model (RegCM3). Using the derived fractional vegetation cover instead of the default fractional vegetation cover in RegCM3, the main climatologic elements in the source water region of the Yellows River were simulated. The results showed that, with considerating the fractional vegetation cover derived satellite in the model, the simulated monthly mean temperature is closer to the surface measurement; which isalso somewhat improvement to simulate regional precipitation. The influence of vegetation on the simulated sensible heat and latent heat fluxes are somewhat improved, and the simulated latent heat flux ismore accuracy than that of the simulated sensible heat flux.
