In this research, the significance and history of studying the snow grain size are introduced. Based on the assumption that highly reflectivity in the visible band and the reflectivity of snow surface decreasing significantly in the infrared band, the grain size of snow, spherical and non-spherical, is sensitive to the change in remote sensing retrieval foundation. Finally the models and algorithms applied in current studies are summed up, together with their advantage and shortage. In addition, in order to get the accuracy of the retrieval, some factors that may affect the grain size retrieved are also discussed, such as temperature, wavelength, particle shape, etc., as well as the authentication method.
