The result of an experimental study on the freezing point of saline soil is presented. This study is a part of a larger experiment program aiming to understand the influences of salt content, water content and ion property on the freezing points of various soils. The experimental results show that the freezing point decreases with increasing salt content and increases with increasing water content of various soils. And the freezing point is controlled by the amount of soluble salt in the soil. The influence of common anions and cations on freezing point is in the order of Cl ->CO32- >SO42- and K+>Na+>Ca2+, respectively. The freezing point of the soil with fine particles is lower than that with coarse particles under the same conditions of water content and salt content, and the effects of soil particles on freezing point decreases visibly with increasing water content.
